How to transfer contacts from iphone to macbook

Are you a long-time iPhone user but only recently got a Mac? Then importing or transferring your iPhone contacts to your Mac is a must. In fact, make it the first thing you do after you are done setting up your brand new MacBook. This not only integrates your Apple devices, but also ensures that you have a copy of your contacts in the event that your iPhone gets lost or damage.

To transfer your iPhone contacts to your MacBook, here are some methods you can try.

How to transfer contacts from iphone to macbook?

1. iCloud syncing

In case you haven’t activated iCloud Contacts on your iPhone yet, don’t worry. Turning it on is as easy as pie. Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Ensure that your Apple ID is signed in on your iPhone.

  2. Go to Settings, then go to iCloud.

  3. Turn on Contacts.

After that, you’ll need to activate iCloud on your Mac as well.

  1. Click on the Apple icon at the top-left corner of your screen.

  2. Select System Preferences.

  3. Select iCloud then login to your iCloud account.

  4. Tick the box labeled Contacts.

Using your Mac, visit iCloud.com, then follow these instructions.

  1. Log in to your iCloud account.
  2. Click Contacts, then click on the gear icon at the bottom-left corner of the window.

  3. Click Select All

  4. Click Export vCard.

All your iPhone contacts are now imported to your Mac as a vCard file.

2. Mac address book

This is a method similar to iCloud syncing.

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings.

  2. Go to iCloud

  3. Turn on Contacts.

  4. On your Mac, click on the Apple icon.

  5. Select System Preferences

  6. Select iCloud.

  7. Select Contacts.

At the bottom of the window, you’ll see that all your iPhone contacts are syncing to your Mac Address book.

3. Email account

In importing your iPhone contacts, you can also email services like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Outlook.

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings.

  2. Go to Mail, then Contacts, then Calendars.

  3. Go to Add Account, then choose your desired email service.

  4. Follow the instructions set by your chosen service.

  5. On your Mac, click on the Apple icon.

  6. Select Internet Accounts.

  7. Select the email service you set up on your iPhone.

  8. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

Some email services are not fully integrated with Apple’s devices, so keep in mind that this method may not be as convenient as something like iCloud.

4. AirDrop

This method is a little tedious and takes longer, but it works nonetheless.

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your iPhone.

  2. Sign in to your iCloud.

  3. Open Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of your iPhone screen.

  4. Go to AirDrop.

  5. Turn permissions from Off, to Contacts Only.

  6. Select the contacts you want to share.

  7. On your MacBook, click on Finder.

  8. Under Favorites, click on AirDrop and turn on your Wi-Fi if it isn’t already on.

  9. On the dropdown menu at the bottom of the window labeled “Allow me to be discovered by:”, choose Contacts Only.

Wait for your iPhone contacts to be sent to your Mac.

Transferring Mac Contacts to an iPhone or another iOS device

What if it were the other way around? What if you wanted to import contacts from your Mac to a brand new iPhone? Well, that’s easy too, thanks to iTunes. With this service, you can sync what’s on your Mac to your iPhone or iPad.

To sync your Mac to an iOS device, follow these instructions.

  1. Connect the iPhone (or any iOS device) to your Mac.

  2. Click the Device button, then click on Info.

  3. Select everything you want to Sync.

  4. Click on Apply.

Once the sync is completed, all the information you selected will now also be on your iOS device.

Did you encounter an issue while syncing? It might be because you selected too many items. In cases like this, try to sync the most important items first and just move on to the other items after the first sync is done.

If you run out of storage space while syncing information between your Mac and iPhone, here are some storage solutions you can try.
